Codex usage: check limits and reset times

Editorially updated · Independent guide

For your actual Codex allowance, use the official usage dashboard or /status in Codex CLI. WhenModelReset helps you interpret and save those times; it does not connect to your account or measure your usage automatically.

A quick reading checklist

AccountIs this your intended personal account or workspace?
AllowanceWhich window or feature is this number for?
PercentageDoes the label say used or remaining?
TimeWhich date and time zone does the reset use?

Worked example: 80% used

If the display says 80% used, 20% remains for that allowance. If it says 80% remaining, only 20% has been used. Do not average two windows: a weekly limit and a shorter limit each need their own label and reminder.

Why the tracker may disagree

An old manually entered value, a different workspace or an announcement about a future event can explain a mismatch. Refresh the official screen first, then update your saved time. The homepage burn-rate tool is a planning estimate; changing its slider does not change any account limit.

What to do

  1. Open the usage dashboard while signed in to the account you use for Codex.
  2. In the CLI, type /status when you want to inspect the active session and available limit information.
  3. Read the label beside each percentage: used and remaining have opposite meanings.
  4. Copy the reset date and time zone into your personal reminder, then check it again after any reset event.
